Product overviewGUBI-vFOLDING is a vertical folding lattice designed as a solar control system for façades. It is a recently patented solution conceived to regulate natural lighting and ventilation through the automated vertical movement of wooden slats. The system combines functionality, sustainability and aesthetic integration in architectural enclosures.
Design and technologyGUBI-vFOLDING incorporates a fully concealed motorised mechanism that drives the vertical folding of two panels, allowing multiple opening positions. The frames are manufactured in aluminium and connected by stainless steel hinges. Horizontal and vertical reinforcements are included within the frames and side guides are provided with a multi-point opening fixing to ensure stability and durability.
Materials and cladding optionsThe lattice is typically specified with horizontal wooden slats as the primary cladding, although the system is versatile: different profiles, finishes, distributions of slats and panels can be applied to adapt the appearance to varied architectural styles. The folding of the frames to the outside enables the application of diverse slat and panel configurations in the sections.
Versatility and installationThe GUBI-vFOLDING system can be integrated with different structural anchoring solutions. Side guides can be embedded in the main building structure (for example in H-section pillars forming a continuous niche) or adapted to alternative supports; the guides are engineered with sufficient support capacity for various installations. The system has been developed, prototyped and tested in workshop environments.
Sustainability and energy efficiencyUsing timber for the louvres positions the system as an eco-efficient solution: wood is a renewable material with a low environmental impact and contributes to the building's energy efficiency. By precisely regulating solar entry, the lattice reduces the need for artificial lighting and helps lower operational energy consumption.
Applications and examplesGUBI-vFOLDING is suitable for residential, commercial and cultural buildings where natural ventilation, sun control and façade aesthetics are priorities. An implemented example is the Parallel Facade project in La Bonanova, Palma de Mallorca, developed with the OHLAB studio. The solution has been prototyped and tested in workshop conditions prior to installation.
